Position Overview
We’re hiring a hands-on Controller to build and lead a scalable accounting function for a fast-growing, wealth management platform. You will own GAAP reporting, the monthly close, audit, and controls across a multi-entity environment, while strengthening systems and processes to scale the accounting function alongside ongoing inorganic growth. You will report directly to the CFO and be responsible for managing your accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Oversee all accounting functions of the operating company and non-operating ownership entities.
- Own monthly/quarterly/year-end close, including preparation and review of reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, supporting schedules, and variance analysis.
- Deliver GAAP-compliant financial statements and management reporting; maintain close calendars, checklists, and documentation.
- Coordinate payroll, benefits, and compensation accounting, including bonus and variable compensation accruals.
- Implement and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency
- Oversee AP, corporate cards/spend, expense reports, and vendor lifecycle (W-9/1099, terms, controls).
- Oversee AR/billing for advisory fees and related revenue; enforce accrual and cut-off discipline.
- Manage treasury functions, including cash administration, banking relationships, and 13-week cash forecasting.
- Build and mentor the accounting team, including the imminent hiring and developing an Accountant and future roles.
- Manage external accounting partner for capacity or specialized work; define clear scopes, quality standards, and cost/benefit.
- Support third-party providers on purchase accounting and opening balance sheets; align policies and controls.
- Integrate acquired entities into the GL, COA, banking, AP/AR, and reporting stack; manage temporary intercompany and eliminations during the integration period.
- Liaise with third-party tax and audit firm for tax filings and annual financial audit of the operating company.
- Draft and maintain technical memos for ASC 606 (advisory/revenue streams), ASC 842 (leases), and ASC 805 (business combinations, step-ups, intangibles, earnouts).
- Lead annual audit and periodic reviews (PBC coordination, auditor requests, issue resolution).
- Coordinate tax compliance with external advisors (federal/state/local; multi-state considerations; K-1s where applicable).
Audit & Tax Coordination
Systems, Data & Automation
- Serve as product owner for Sage Intacct (multi-entity & consolidations), Bill.com, Divvy/Bill Spend & Expense; partner with Ops/IT on BlackDiamond data, which impacts revenue/AUM reporting.
- Improve and maintain a scalable COA and dimension structure.
- Implement business unit/team-level reporting, including detailed cost allocations of corporate expenses.
- Drive close acceleration, automation, and self-service reporting.
FP&A & Executive Support
- Lead and manage the annual budgeting process and coordinate with finance in the implementation of a rolling budget forecast.
- Monitor and regularly report budget versus actuals.
- Partner with Finance on budgets/forecasts, covenants, and board/KPI packages.
- Translate accounting results into actionable insights for both the finance team and firmwide leadership.
- Support ad hoc reporting needs, strategic initiatives, and special projects as requested by senior leadership.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Active CPA required, Bachelor’s in Accounting or related field required, and a Master’s in Accounting a plus.
- 7–12+ years total experience, including public accounting (Big 4 or national) and in-house controllership or leadership within a fast-growth private firm.
- Financial services/wealth management (or adjacent) strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ownership of audits, monthly close, GAAP reporting, and ASC 805/606/842.
- Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with PowerBI.
- Experience with Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Divvy/Bill Spend & Expense.
- Understanding of revenue operations and downstream data from BlackDiamond or similar platforms.
- Builder’s mindset with pragmatic change management and strong documentation habits.

- Salary range for this role: $185,000-$235,000
- Year-end bonus between 10%-20% of salary
