About the Role
As a Business Development Officer, you’ll play a central role in identifying, sourcing, qualifying, and converting new client opportunities. Reporting directly to the Director of Growth & Advisor Development, you’ll act as a force multiplier for our advisors—generating leads, forging COI partnerships, and managing a disciplined sales pipeline. This role blends relationship-building, consultative selling, and sales execution in a high-trust, white-glove environment.
Responsibilities
Partnership & Networking
- Produce and cultivate relationships with centers of influence (COIs), including estate attorneys, CPAs, business managers, and private bankers.
- Represent the firm at high-impact networking functions, affinity group gatherings, and community events.
- Host or co-host firm events (educational or social) to attract and engage prospective clients.
New Business Acquisition
- Build and manage a robust pipeline of qualified leads through inbound, outbound, and referral sources.
- Maintain rigorous CRM hygiene and pipeline visibility via Salesforce.
- Facilitate smooth handoffs to Advisors post-conversion, ensuring a high-trust transition.
- Own the prospecting and pre-discovery process in partnership with Advisors.
Sales Strategy & Execution
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to convert leads from events, campaigns, digital efforts, and third-party platforms.
- Participate in or lead client discovery meetings, showcasing firm capabilities, planning philosophies, and value propositions.
Market Development
- Analyze local market trends and identify niche opportunities in LA’s diverse wealth landscape.
- Assist in launching regional or vertical-specific campaigns (e.g. tech professionals, founders, entertainers, physicians).
Desired Skills and Experience
- 5 - 7 years of sales representative or channel management experience
- Undergraduate degree required; finance, marketing or business preferred
- Series 65 (or equivalent) or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Executive presence with the ability to confidently engage senior stakeholders, represent the firm with polish, and instill trust across diverse client and COI audiences
- Demonstrated aptitude for consultative sales and building mutually beneficial relationships
- Possesses business maturity and demonstrates behavior consistent with Composition’s values
- Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter, work independently and accomplish goals with minimal direction and supervision
- Professional, assertive, and effective in understanding client needs and communicating client benefits
- Demonstrated ability to effectively execute a business development/marketing strategy to meet defined client and revenue goals
- Expected to be current with industry trends, terminology, and concepts
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Salesforce

- Salary range for this role: $175,000-$225,000
